Objectives

To explain the principles involved in the three stages of evacuation and the prioritisation of moving people during a fire emergency.

 

Session Content

  • Principles of a Healthcare Staged Evacuation-Discuss and demonstrate how staff will employ the 3 stages of evacuation in a fire emergency utilising the facilities fire and smoke compartmentation:-
    Stage 1 – out of the room,
    Stage 2 – out of the fire/smoke compartment,
    Stage 3 – out of the building.
  • Staff to Resident Ratio-Discuss and demonstrate how staff will reduce their staff to resident ratio in a fire emergency.
  • Resident Evacuation Prioritisation-Ambulant, Semi-Ambulant, Non-Ambulant. Discuss the correct order of evacuation in an emergency.
  • Non-Ambulant Resident Removal Techniques-Discuss and demonstrate how to remove a Non-ambulant resident whose life is in immediate danger. Ie:-Blanket Drag and Evacuation Slide Sheets.
